NEW: Reading in English

Think about the number of hours that you have spent speaking, reading or writing in your native language. Now compare that to the number of hours that you have spent doing the same in English. This is part of the reason why your ability to express yourself in your native language is so much easier than it is in English. To combat this, you’ll want to spend as much time as possible using English in your day-to-day life. Make a point to read something in English every day.

Consider, for example, rereading a book that you enjoy. Many of them were originally written in English anyway and have just been translated into Spanish. Amazon is a good place to go to look for a book in English. Just search for name of the author and see if the English version appears.

If you read the news, you might also consider reading the news in English rather than read it in Spanish. You can follow some Twitter accounts or go to the following websites:

http://news.yahoo.com/

http://www.theguardian.com/uk

http://www.nytimes.com/

Remember that if you have access to the Internet, your options are endless. Find something you enjoy and make a point to do it.
